Letter from your USG

Welcome to WHSMUN 2027! My name is Henri Stilling, and I am beyond thrilled to have the privilege of serving as your Under-Secretary-General of Crisis Committees. I am a junior at UW–Madison studying History and Political Science with minors in German and Educational Policy. Outside of Model UN, I am also an editor for the UW Journal of Undergraduate International Studies, as well as a research assistant with the oral history team at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, hiking, and reading books on everything from genetic engineering to obscure moments of history.

With that being said, welcome to the wonderful world of crisis at WHSMUN! As your USG, I am committed to ensuring that each and every one of you has an exceptional experience. WHSMUN ’24 was what got me to join the WiscoMUN team in college, and the rest is history. I want to ensure that you have the amazing experience I did!

As a student who started my MUN crisis career as a hesitant delegate, I understand that MUN crisis committees can be daunting. In fact, I had never even heard of crisis before I started collegiate MUN, so you’re already one step ahead in that sense. Here is some advice: crisis committees are all about research, confidence, character exploration, and taking risks. I encourage you to be creative and stretch the boundaries of possibility. Crisis is a challenge of dealing with the inevitable twists and turns, and reacting through innovative, unique ideas. Remember: the world’s your limit if you can explain why we should give it to you!

Our crisis staff has worked incredibly hard this past year to ensure that you have the best possible experience. They will be there to guide and challenge you throughout your committees, whether that be in implementing your creative ideas or pushing you to make hard decisions. Without them, these committees would not run, so be sure to thank your directors, chairs, and Back Room staffers; they truly are the backbone of crisis.

Lastly, thank YOU for your commitment to and passion for MUN. I am extremely excited to see all of your creative ideas, intense debates, and wild directives during WHSMUN 2027. If you have any questions, please direct them to: Crisisusgwhsmun@gmail.com. Have an incredible time, delegates, and don’t be afraid to cause a crisis, or two…
