WHSMUN Staffing Experience
The Wisconsin High School Model United Nations (WHSMUN) conference brings together high school students from across Wisconsin and beyond to develop skills in diplomacy, public speaking, negotiation, leadership, and global problem-solving. As a staff member, you'll play a key role in creating an engaging and educational experience that empowers the next generation of leaders.
No previous staffing experience is required. Training and support will be provided throughout the year, and we welcome students with Model UN, leadership, teaching, or organizational experience.

What Does a WHSMUN Staffer Do?
WHSMUN staff members help design, facilitate, and support all aspects of the conference. Staffers work closely with the Secretariat to ensure delegates have an engaging, educational, and memorable experience.
Responsibilities may include:
Facilitating committee sessions
Guiding delegates through parliamentary procedure
Supporting debate, resolutions, and committee logistics
Creating educational materials and committee content
Assisting with crisis simulations and special programs
Managing conference operations and delegate support
Mentoring high school students in public speaking and diplomacy
Commitment
1-2 meetings per month depending on your role
Flexible scheduling that works around classes and other commitments
Full participation during the conference on March 18-19, 2027

Excused absence letters will be provided for professors
Meals will be provided during the conference

Staff Roles
Backroom Staffer
Write and process crisis updates, directives, and background developments
Support the operation of crisis committees behind the scenes
Help create an immersive and dynamic committee experience
Work closely with Crisis Chairs throughout the conference
Commitment: 1-2 meetings per month
ICJ Advocate
Participate in the International Court of Justice simulation
Research legal arguments and prepare case presentations
Present oral arguments and respond to questions
Help create a realistic international legal environment
Commitment: 1-2 meetings per month
Crisis Committee Chair
Lead fast-paced crisis committees
Manage committee direction and delegate engagement
Coordinate with crisis staff to deliver updates and events
Foster creative problem-solving and strategic thinking
Commitment: 1-2 meetings per month
17 high schoolers in room
Administrative Staffer
Support conference logistics and operations
Assist with registration, delegate services, and event coordination
Help solve problems and ensure sessions run smoothly
Serve as a key point of support for delegates and advisors
A variety of roles fall under this: more logistical day of, social media based, photographer, etc!
Low commitment role until the conference: 1 meeting per month
General Assembly Chair
Lead committee sessions and moderate debate
Guide delegates through parliamentary procedure
Ensure a professional, fair, and educational committee environment
Support delegates as they develop speaking and negotiation skills
Commitment: 1-2 meetings per month
70-250 high schoolers in your room with support staff
Vice Chair
Assist the Chair with committee operations
Help track speakers, motions, and procedural matters
Provide feedback and support to delegates
Step into leadership responsibilities when needed
Commitment: 1-2 meetings per month
Range of high schoolers in room vary depending on committee size
GA: 50-250 high schoolers depending, with support staff
Regional Bodies & Specialized Agencies: 25-75 high schoolers with support staff
Crisis Committees: 17 high schoolers
