Committees
The General Assembly
The General Assembly contains the largest and internationally focused committees of WHSMUN. These include the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Main Committees. Each of these four bodies will work to produce Draft Resolutions, with the ultimate goal of passing these pieces of legislation within the General Assembly Plenary Session’s Resolution.
1st Main Committee [DISEC]
2nd Main Committee [ECOFIN]
3rd Main Committee [SOCHUM]
4th Main Committee [SPECPOL]
The Specialized Agencies
The Special Agencies consists of committees that deal with more specific issues and operate under different rules than those of the General Assembly. This includes the International Court of Justice, the Human Rights Council, and the World Health Organization.
International Court of Justice: Topic A [ICJ]
International Court of Justice: Topic B [ICJ]
UN Human Rights Council: Topic A [UNHRC]
UN Human Rights Council: Topic B [UNHRC]
World Health Organization
[WHO]
The Regional Bodies
The Regional Bodies, a new department to WHSMUN this year, combine recognizable General Assembly debate with fast-paced crisis dynamics, challenging delegates to respond as real-world policymakers would. Operating under authentic regional procedures, these committees will ask delegates to work to uphold regional stability in a rapidly changing world, and to mirror the decision-making of their respective institutions: the Council of the European Union (CEU), African Union (AU), and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
Council of the European Union: Topic A [CEU]
African Union: Topic A [AU]
Association of Southeast Asian Nations: Topic A [ASEAN]
Association of Southeast Asian Nations: Topic B [ASEAN]
The Crisis Committees
The Crisis Committees comprise all committees that involve elements of crisis. This includes the Historic Crisis Committee, the Joint Crisis Committee(s), and the Security Council. The Crisis Committees are more advanced simulations, and more experienced students may be better prepared and experienced to participate in these bodies.
